Introduction:
Benzothiazole and its derivatives are a very important class of heterocyclic compounds, which are widely found in nature. They are colorless liquids with a quinoline-like odor. Melting point is 2°C, boiling point is 233-235°C, and flash point is ≥100°C. Relative density (d420) is 1.2460, and refractive index (nD20) is 1.6439. They are almost insoluble in water; they are soluble in ethanol, and carbon disulfide.
Application:
Food field: It exists naturally in some foods and is also used as a food additive. It has a sulfur-containing smell and meaty flavor. The European Food Safety Authority has assessed that as a seasoning substance, there is no safety problem at the estimated intake level.
Industrial field: It is an important intermediate for the synthesis of various dyes, such as thioflavin. Its derivatives can be used as potential components of nonlinear optical materials. It is also a key raw material for the preparation of rubber vulcanization accelerators, such as 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and its derivatives, which are widely used in the rubber industry to accelerate the vulcanization rate of rubber and improve the performance of rubber products.
